Dialogical Skills Workshop

Why?

We feel strongly that Open Dialogue as an approach and way of working has much to offer, even if you are not working in an Open Dialogue team or implementation. This  workshop will draw on the values and skills from Open Dialogue (‘dialogic skills’) to inform and support collaborative and dialogical  practice for mental health & social care workers of all professions.

Dialogical skills emphasise listening and responding to the whole person in the context of their life and network. This process allows the person and network greater voice and agency and to feel heard, respected, and validated. People often tell us that they thought they were good listeners until they come to this workshop! These skills will be of value for all, in their day to day and crisis work and in recovery related initiatives.

About the workshop

The aim of the workshops is to support best practice in co-produced recovery-oriented collaborative support, that centres the voice of the person at the centre of concern. The workshop will have a focus on experiential training and practical strategies for implementation across settings.

Each workshop will include: Exploration of values in practice; Experiential exercises (role play); Voice of service users; Exploration of your own practice; Links to Open Dialogue and dialogical literature.

We will cover areas such as:

  • Listening and Responding in routine clinical practice and in crisis
  • Using  dialogical approaches in mental health
  • The difference between ‘monological’ and ‘dialogical’ conversations
  • Hearing less heard voices in ourselves and others
  • Practicing and developing dialogical skills for your context & practice
