Advanced Open Dialogue Practitioner Training

Why?

Advanced trainings offer a space – an additional one or two years – for practitioners to further develop their Open Dialogue and dialogical skills and understanding. In teams offering Open Dialogue, this opportunity fosters a depth of experience that can support practitioners from a range of backgrounds in working with more challenging or complex situations. Advanced practitioners are also in an ideal position to offer mentorship support to Foundation Trainees, sharing their learning and experience.

About This Course

Advanced courses include supervision, work on one’s own relational world and practice-based theoretical input. These elements help strengthen the dialogical skills developed during the Foundation Training and create space for them to deepen and flourish. The topics covered are developed in dialogue with the organisation and the needs of the trainees, but can include: working with stuckness in Open Dialogue; hope and hopelessness; working in times of crisis and uncertainty; working with individuals; trauma informed dialogue.

Our Advanced Courses, in line with the international standard, are aimed at those already practising in Open Dialogue and have a required number of practice hours – depending on the length of the course. They also have a theory component, with the expectation that trainees will read recommended articles in self-directed study groups. The supervision component also requires trainees to be in a position to video or audio record network meetings, enabling them to bring in clips of their work to reflect upon in order to develop their skills in, and understanding of, the Open Dialogue approach.

Who?

This course is aimed at people wishing to practice Open Dialogue or work in a dialogically informed way. This may include mental health and social care professionals, including those with Lived Experience (including Peer Support Workers and Lived Experience Practitioners).

When?

This course can be commissioned by organisations.

The Advanced training course can be commissioned by organisations as a one or two year process for those who have already completed the Foundation Training. It can also be commissioned as part of a package that includes the Foundation year.
